It was 9:30pm when I entered Applause Applause for Monday Night Tgirls where the beautiful Miss Beba is the resident bartender on Monday nights. There was a small crowd and I enjoyed being the center of attention, that is, whenever the focus was not on the beautiful Miss Beba. Two portly fellows offered to buy me drinks, so that was nice of them.

Miss Beba was mixing me some Mellon Balls, a drink with vodka, Midori, and orange juice. The cameras flashed away and plenty of pictures were taken of me, but this grumpy old man muttered something evil to me because he didn't like the flashes.

After grumpy left, one of Miss Beba's friends remarked that I looked "absolutely divine" and we gave each other huggies.

The party had its usual growing pains... and skeptics.

"Christina and I are going to keep promoting this Monday Night Tgirls party," I told my friend Cesar, but he remained skeptical.

"Others have tried and failed. What makes you think you can do it?" he questioned.

I wanted to say, "Because I'm Kalina Isato," but I didn't want to sound pompous. I just smiled and kept my thoughts to myself. When you believe in something so strongly that it eats at the very core of your being, then and only then do you know that your time and energy is being devoted to a good cause.

I want this party to survive. Christina wants this party to survive. We're going to make it happen.

Monday Night Tgirls moved to a new venue this week, Tavern on Camac, located at 243 South Camac Street in Philadelphia. Our group was a bit smaller tonight, but we still had a lot of fun socializing. Denny from Kansas was in town and wanted to check out our little party.

"Some girls in the urnotalone chat room asked if you really looked like your pictures and I said yes," he commented.

I giggled. Ever since I instituted my "no retouching" policy on my pictures after 2003, many people have wondered if I really look the way I do. Yes, folks, I do exist! Maybe someday I'll get to meet you, too. Just come to a party that I'm at or that I'm promoting.

October 20, 2006 - Kalina, Rhonda, and Christina's Club Crawl

This party was a huge success! 15 people from 7 different states (PA, NJ, MD, DC, VA, CA, AK) were in attendance.

We started our club crawl adventure at the basement bar of Tavern on Camac, located at 243 South Camac Street. Tavern on Camac is a multi-level club with a basement bar, piano bar, and dance club all in one. The girls started filtering in and by 8:30pm, our entire crowd was present. We enjoyed a round of drinks before heading upstairs to the dance club. A number of the girls jumpstarted the party by dancing.

At 10:30pm, we moved to our next destination, 12th Air Command, another multi-level club, which was right around the corner. Ivan from Washington, DC bought me a drink. I got into the music moreso here than Tavern on Camac and danced with Lisa Coles and Ivan. After dancing, we had a group picture taken in the rear game room.

Our final destination was Sisters, a lesbian club that the group wanted to go to. Rhonda from Alaska graciously offered to pay my cover charge. We got there at a quarter to midnight. More of the girls in our group released their inhibitions and got into dancing. Everyone had a great time and it was truly remarkable that Christina, Rhonda, and I were able to draw such a diverse gathering of people.

Earlier in the day, actually for the better part of the day, from 11:30am to 5:00pm, I got my hair done by Zulene Newkirk, a creative hair design consultant in Philadelphia. Presently, an instructor of the Empire Beauty School, Zulene has been working in the beauty industry for over 25 years. She created a gorgeous, glamorous hairstyle using my own hair and hairline as its foundation. Zulene works by appointment only and has a private salon in the downtown Philadelphia area.

October 31, 2006 - The Henri David Halloween Ball

This year for Halloween I decided to do something really off-the-wall, so I dressed up as an adult version of Min nie Mouse.

Store-bought costumes are rarely complete, so I added my own little spice to mine. A crinoline petticoat poufed up the skirt giving me an added theatrical look. Black fishnets and Mary Jane-style pumps added undeniably sexiness to the costume. My shoulder-length hair was curled and styled to look like a do from the Sixties. I wore red lipstick and gold glitter eyeshadow. The final bit of spice was my cuddly little Steamb@at W*llie doll which I carried around with me. Halloween for adults is all about acting a bit juvenile, like our favorite cartoon characters.

The Henri David Halloween Ball was held at the Doubletree Hotel this year, a much different venue from the Wyndham-Franklin Plaza Hotel, which is now closed, bought, and sold to the Sheraton Hotel chain. There was a huge line of people waiting to get in, but we managed to squeeze our way to the front. The Ormandy Ballroom was packed so tight that sardines would complain. The ballroom was much smaller than the Wyndham's ballroom, perhaps one-quarter the size, and there was very little space for onlookers to people-watch.

Even though this was a Tuesday night, the number of costumed participants was still astounding. There were over 270 contestants in all, competing for nine different categories from Most Horrifying to Most Beautiful Female Impersonator. Many of the winners wore expertly hand-crafted costumes that looked so much better than the store-bought variety.

When the contests ended, much of the crowd was gone and I could finally get up, walk around, and socialize for the remaining hour or so. Some of my friends were disappointed that I didn't enter the Best Celebrity Look-alike contest.
